Our Story
Arniston Estate is a 6,000 acre, working estate that is a wonderful example of thriving rural businesses and country lifestyle set within a short commute to the vibrant capital city of Edinburgh. Just 2 miles from the train station or 25 minutes by car, Arniston House offers the perfect blend of a countryside retreat a stone’s throw from the attractions and excitement of Edinburgh.
Arniston has been home to the Dundas family since 1571 and the family still live in the house today. The present owners, the Dundas-Bekker family have been involved in a long programme of restoration work and continue to lovingly reinstate the home that had been ravaged by dry rot in the 1950’s.
The family’s administration of Arniston House and the estate is guided by an unwavering commitment to preserving this remarkable legacy of history, architecture and art. The Arniston House collection contains generations of family portraits and exquisite artworks by artists such as Ramsay, Raeburn and Nasmyth; as well as beautiful period furniture, stunning architecture and stucco work. The grounds, policies and surrounding woodlands offer a peaceful and relaxing space to spend time in throughout the seasons.
Arniston has also featured as a film location set in several productions including Churchill, OUtlander and The Buccaneers! More here
